Name history

Minecraft name history

Search a Minecraft: Java Edition username to open its page: the account that has it, the names that account went through, when each change happened, and who had the name before.

What a name history shows

  • The account's names in order, the newest first, each with the date it started and how long it lasted.
  • Every account the name has belonged to that we know of: a name that dropped and was taken by someone else shows both.
  • The player's skin, in three dimensions, and the capes it wears.
  • Whether the name is about to drop, with its window, when its owner has just left it.

Where the history comes from

Mojang stopped publishing the name history of accounts in 2022, so there is no official source any more. What 37 Days shows is what it saw itself: we look at every three- and four-character name every few minutes, and at every name somebody searched about once an hour. When an account that had a name turns up with another, that rename goes into its history with the two moments it happened between.

For the names an account had before we first saw it we ask other public records once, and mark those dates with ≈ when whoever recorded them did not see the exact moment.

What it cannot show

A history is only as long as somebody was watching. An account nobody ever searched has no history here until it is searched once, and a rename from before anyone recorded it is not shown at all. When a date carries ±, the change happened somewhere inside that margin: we saw the name with one owner at one look and without it at the next.

Why the history of a name matters

An account that changes its name often is likely to leave the one it has now, and every time it does, the name it leaves drops 37 days later. That is how a taken name turns into an upcoming drop. If the name you want is taken, follow it and we tell you when that happens, or check it any time with the name checker.

Questions about name history

Can I see every name a Minecraft account has had?

Only the ones somebody recorded. Since Mojang closed its name history in 2022, any site that shows one, this one included, shows what it observed or collected, which may not be all of it.

How often can a Minecraft account change its name?

Once every 30 days. The name it leaves is reserved for 37 days: nobody else can take it in that time, and from day 30, when the account may change its name again, it can go back to it. After the 37 days anyone can take it.

Can I find an account by a name it used to have?

Yes, when we saw it. Search the old name: its page lists the accounts it has belonged to, with what each one is called now.
